Current Wild Rose MP Blake Richards officially announced his intention to run for the new electoral district of Banff-Airdrie in the next federal election.
Richards said he is pleased with what he and the federal Conservative party have accomplished in the last seven years, and, since being first elected in 2008, he hopes to continue to advocate for his constituents and for conservatism.
“We delivered on our promise to scrap the long-gun registry, and to bring marketing freedom to Western Canadian grain farmers,” said Richards in a release. “We’ve emerged from the global recession as a leading economy in the G8, we’ve cut taxes and kept them low and we’re expanding trade and taking action to ensure jobs, growth and long-term prosperity for all Canadians in the years to come.”
Richards believes it is important to have an ‘experienced voice’ working for the Banff-Airdrie riding in Ottawa.
The new electoral boundaries will take effect during the next federal election, which is slated to occur Oct. 19, 2015.
The new riding will include the municipalities of Cochrane, Airdrie, Canmore, Crossfield, Morley and parts of Rocky View County and the MD of Bighorn.
