Blake Richards was sworn in by the Clerk of the House of Commons on Nov. 6 as the first-ever Member of Parliament for the federal electoral district of Banff-Airdrie.
“I am humbled that the citizens of Banff-Airdrie have entrusted me to be their voice in Ottawa,” said Richards.
After each census, federal electoral districts are readjusted to reflect population changes. Following the 2011 census, the boundaries of the riding of Wild Rose were re-adjusted to form the new electoral district of Banff-Airdrie. The new federal riding now includes Banff National Park; the city of Airdrie; the towns of Canmore, Banff, Cochrane and Crossfield; the communities of Lake Louise, Exshaw, Benchlands, Bearspaw, Springbank, Deadman’s Flats, Harvie Heights, Balzac, Lac Des Arcs and Madden; and the summer villages of Ghost Lake and Waiparous. It also includes the Stoney Nakoda First Nation, as well as the MD of Bighorn, Improvement District 9 and part of Rocky View County.
“To have had the opportunity to serve as the Member of Parliament for our area over the last seven years has been one of the greatest honours of my life,” said Richards.
“I am humbled by the trust and confidence that has been placed in me once again by my fellow citizens. I will work hard to continue to be a strong representative for our communities in Banff-Airdrie in the 42nd Parliament of Canada.”
