Richards to host economic roundtable at Legion

Members of the Cochrane business community and those concerned over the interaction between governments and the economy are encouraged to attend an economic roundtable discussion hosted by Conservative MP Blake Richards.

The event will be held at the Cochrane Legion Sept. 7 from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and is one of three discussions on the economic climate that will be hosted by Richards that week (also in Airdrie and Canmore).

“We’ve partnered with the Chamber for this event, as small business members in the community have the best pulse on what’s going on,” said Richards, who is focusing on reoccurring themes he continues to come across as he door knocks throughout the constituency – job loss; uncertainty of the investment climate; and the interaction between provincial and federal governments with the oil and gas sector.

With talk of carbon taxes on the forefront of the provincial and even federal agendas, as well as discussions on CPP contribution increases Richards said there are a number of concerns he has heard across the riding and looks forward to receiving feedback at the roundtable.

Another common concern is uncertainty in regulatory investing.

“Large-scale projects require certainty and government needs to encourage investment in this province to put people back to work.”

Those attending are encouraged to RSVP by tomorrow (Sept. 2) to [email protected].
