Wild Rose MP Blake Richards is applauding his federal Conservative government’s 2013 budget, saying it addresses what his constituents want to see most, balancing the books.
“Clearly our government remains committed to a careful plan of economic growth and spending reductions,” Richards said in a news release, “which will see us eliminate the federal deficit by the fall of 2015.”
Richards said the government’s spending for 2013 is projected to be over $11 billion lower than planned, bringing a return to balance by 2015 with a $800 million surplus the following year.
“A balanced budget on a reasonable timeline was a top priority of my constituents and I’m glad to see that reflected in the budget.”
Named Canada’s Economic Action Plan 2013, Richards believes the budget includes several measures to strengthen the country’s economy, including a $70-billion investment into infrastructure, increased skills and training support and tax credits and incentives for apprenticeships.
“While Canada has the best job creation record among all G-7 countries since the worst of the global recession with over 950,000 net new jobs,” said Richards, “we recognize that the global economy remains very challenging. In Economic Action Plan 2013, our Conservative government remains squarely focused on the number one priority of Canadians, with a forward-looking plan to help create jobs and grow the economy in Alberta and across Canada.”
