Music fans and humanitarians alike will be coming together for an evening of good tunes and good causes for March 2’s Rockin’ in the Rockyview.
Hosted by Vision Financial Inc., three bands — local performers Kaitee Dal Pra and Smokin’ Aces, and Calgary’s JK and the Static — are slated to keep the Rockyview Hotel rocking throughout the night.
In addition to the music, proceeds from the evening will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Cochrane and Area, and the Bow-West branch of Junior Achievement of Southern Alberta.
“It’s hard to find good live music nowadays,” said Paul Barker, a music lover and managing partner at Vision Financial Inc. “I wanted to support those efforts and generate some money for two great organizations.”
The music promises to suit the tastes of almost anyone: local girl Dal Pra will be crooning her country tunes, the Smokin’ Aces will be singing the blues, and JK and the Static will be bringing their twist of funk and soul.
A live auction is slated before the headliners, JK and the Static, hit the stage. Only, instead of offering up goods to be toted home after the event, Dylan Oosterveld, executive director of the local Boys and Girls Club, said “experiences” will be auctioned off.
The list includes dinner out at a Calgary restaurant, vacations, and concert experiences that include dinner and tickets to the likes of Tim McGraw and the Dixie Chicks.
“The proceeds will be supporting the variety of Junior Achievement programming that runs throughout this region,” said Kim Williams-Lowe, regional coordinator for the Bow West region of the project.
Williams-Lowe said she runs about 63 programs in the area, each costs about $500 to operate.
“You’re supporting local music, local organizations and, with the new owners of the Rockyview Hotel (Mark and Michelle Horton), you’re supporting local business,” said Barker, a member of the Junior Achievement Bow West Rural Leadership Council.
