With the countdown to Christmas officially on, schedules have become a whirlwind of errands, holiday parties and family visits.

Especially busy this time of year is the man himself, Santa Claus. Luckily, he had the time to contact the Cochrane Eagle with a message for the children of Cochrane.

This Dec. 24, Santa will be hanging out with some of Cochrane’s first responders and driving around Cochrane aboard one of the fire trucks from Station 151. Along with members of the Cochrane Fire Fighters Community Foundation, St. Nick will be taking a few hours out of his hectic Christmas Eve plans to pay a visit to the town’s children.

“I’m always on the lookout for the best-behaved children in the world — this year, Cochrane was the place,” said Santa. “I had to come here for a visit.”

From his spot on the fire truck, Santa will be touring through each and every one of Cochrane’s neighbourhoods to make sure he can see as many of the town’s children as possible.

“I’m very exciting to see everyone,” he said with a smile. “All the kids should keep an eye out for me — I’ll be waving from the truck.”

But Santa was quick to urge kids to keep on their best behaviour. Just because the days until Christmas are dwindling down, doesn’t mean it isn’t too late to be put on the naughty list, he remarked.

“Even on Christmas Eve, I’ll be aboard the fire engine, but my elves will be watching,” he added.

Santa will be starting his tour of Cochrane in the community of Fireside, before working his way north. He’s on a tight schedule, what with delivering toys worldwide, but he’ll be in the town from 4 - 7:30 p.m.

“Once I’m done in Cochrane, it’s back to the North Pole for me,” he laughed. “It’ll be time for me to finish getting ready and head out for the night.”

Santa and the local firefighters will be releasing a map of the route next week. Make sure to keep an eye on the Cochrane Eagle, along with the Cochrane Fire Fighters’ Facebook and Twitter pages for the most up-to-date information.
