Scooters will be rolling back into town tomorrow after a successful first season.
A total of 1,963 people rode an average of 3.2 kilometres for about 18.44 minutes last year for a total of 6,612 trips, statistics show. And now, Canadian company Roll is putting 150 e-scooters back out on the streets for use between Fireside to Heritage Hills for March 25.
“We are thrilled to welcome back e-scooters for the season as it will contribute to safe and affordable transportation options we have here in Cochrane,” Town of Cochrane's community connectivity advisor Devin LaFleche said.
“With last year's success, we see this as a positive service leading to more community connectivity.”
The 2021 launch was part of a pilot project that supports the Town's environmental and transportation goals by limiting carbon emissions, reducing traffic congestion and closing the gap on transportation.
The project comes at no cost to the Town as a portion of the revenue from each trip is donated back for micro-mobility related projects, such as building and maintaining bike lanes.
Roll scooters are limited to riders over the age of 16 and aren't allowed on sidewalks or highways. Helmets are encouraged.
