Springbank fair brings community together

Fall is in the air, which means summer is coming to end.

Fall is in the air, which means summer is coming to end. But why not make the best of it at the Springbank Old Tyme Fall Fair at the Springbank Park for All Seasons?

And to kick off the festivities, what better way to enjoy the last bit of summer then with a family fun walk and run.

As part of the fair, lace up your runners for the Springbank Family Fun 5k Walk & Run, as well as the Kristen Lee Coutts Memorial 10k run.

Runners will pick up race packages Sept. 11 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the concession area of the park. There will be limited time for pick up Sept. 12 from 7 to 7:45 a.m. Registration fees include a swag bag and shirt, along with access to a pancake breakfast after the race.

After the race, bib numbers are entered into the prize draw bin, with prizes having been donated by local groups and businesses.

Lisa Constantinea with the park said the fair aims to recognize Springbank heritage and the effort to involve new generations. “It’s a fun day for the family that gets the community together. Springbank is not a town like the town of Cochrane; there’s no hub, so this is considered the only big community event to bring Springbank residents together.”

Besides the run, the start of the event includes four-on-four hockey from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Lions Club Pancake Breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Afterwards, the fair begins in earnest with the agricultural and horticultural bench show (featuring home skills, arts and crafts), agricultural displays and demonstrations (featuring rope making, antiques and more) and a vendors’ market at 9 a.m. To register for the race, visit springbank.ab.ca, select the Fall Fair 2015, and then choose Family Fun Run.
