The annual St. Timothy High School ‘students versus staff’ hockey game was a big success this year, both on and off the ice.

Through a raffle at the school, St. Timothy was able to raise $2,000 to be donated to the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre (CAC).

The CAC ‘assesses, investigates, intervenes and provides treatment and support for sexual abuse and the most severe cases of physical abuse and neglect.’ They provide services for children from birth to 18 years of age.

Kennedy, along with Team Canada women’s hockey prospect and centre volunteer Jessica Campbell, took part in the game last month that saw Hockey Canada Skills Academy students against some of St. Tim’s teaching staff.

“He was well received by all the kids. They were star struck by him as well as Jessica being on the ice,” said Kevin MacLellan, teacher, athletic director and Hockey Canada Skills Academy instructor at St. Tim’s. The student team consisted of 21 students registered in the academy. MacLellan said over 150 staff and students and members of the Cochrane community attended the game, with the staff winning 15 -12.

Although they had the students versus staff game last year, MacLellan said this was the first year they decided to make the event their major fundraiser for the year.

Donated to the raffle was a Boston Bruins team autographed jersey from Bruin’s defenseman Adam McQuaid, an Ottawa Senators team autographed jersey donated by Senators coach Dave Cameron, two Flames tickets from St. Timothy teacher Michelle Fior and apparel from the Calgary Flames.
