Studs and more at auction in Water Valley

With the tag line “It’s not what you think… It’s even better,” the Water Valley Community Association Charity and Stud Auction certainly piques curiosity. The 25th running of the auction is set to go down March 21 at the Water Valley Saloon.

With the tag line “It’s not what you think… It’s even better,” the Water Valley Community Association Charity and Stud Auction certainly piques curiosity.

The 25th running of the auction is set to go down March 21 at the Water Valley Saloon. The evening will kick off at 5 p.m. with a silent auction, with live auction bidding beginning at 7 p.m.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit the community organization.

“Funding will be put towards our facilities and maintenance,” said Denise Atter, fundraising coordinator for the group. “We’ll also be adding a bit to support plans we have on the horizon.”

Originally run to sell stallion breeding shares, the auction has evolved to give attendees a chance to bid on everything from golf passes, horseback riding and rafting adventures, to Calgary Flames game tickets, photography sessions and a variety of gift certificates.

Keeping with tradition, a different type of stud will be available to bid on. Atter said she’s in the works of collecting a selection of men to offer up their yard and handyman skills.

Joining the fellas on the auction block will be a number of local ladies who will tackle a spring-cleaning project for the highest bidder.

Last year’s charity and stud auction raised about $20,000 for the organization. Atter said she hopes to raise the same amount this year.

“This is a fun evening for a great cause,” said Atter. “We have a wonderful, growing community. It’s worth the time and effort to come out and support the association.”

Attendees are welcome to stick around the saloon following the live auction for entertainment. No minors will be allowed in the saloon. Only cash or cheque will be accepted.
