Stuff that bus

The third annual ‘Stuff-A-Bus’ campaign is back this Dec. 7 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

The gift-gathering initiative, led by the Cochrane and Area Events Society (CAES), seeks to stuff a Fenton Bus Lines bus parked in front of Canadian Tire with unwrapped gifts, toys and non-perishable food items to assist the Cochrane Activettes Share Your Christmas hamper program this coming Saturday.

“Canadian Tire really stepped up their support this year and it’s greatly appreciated” said CAES president, Ronnie Knowles.

The first 100 shoppers purchasing a toy for the bus will receive five dollars off at Canadian Tire tills on Dec. 7.

The bus, once stuffed, will be driven to the Activettes’ sorting bay, organized into the more than 140 hampers the non-profit food bank predicts to hand out this holiday season.

“We expect our need to be higher this year, based on how many hampers we’ve been giving out already,” said Activettes president, Kathy Hubman, adding that tax receipts can be issued to anyone who wishes to make a monetary donation.

The Activettes pack and portion anywhere from 10-18 hampers weekly.

As the weather grows colder, the reliance on the food bank grows stronger.
