It is that time of year again where we celebrate the summer with the simplest yet most delicious of breakfast foods – the pancake. The western tradition is not only tasty, but it is usually free.

From buttermilk to blueberry, people love flocking to parking lots and parks around Alberta to scarf down a flapjack or two.

Here are some of the upcoming pancake breakfasts happening in the area:

When: Sunday July 6 from 9 a.m. until noon.

What: Happening in the community of Fireside, the event will have pancakes, Spolumbo’s sausages, pony rides, music and the 2012 Calgary Stampede Chuckwagon Championship winner Troy Dorchester.

When: Monday July 7 from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m.

What: The event will take place at Grand Central Properties behind the ATB. The event is sponsored by Grand Central, Royal LePage Integrity, Mabbott and Company, Guy’s Cafe & Bakery, ATB Financial, Phone Experts and Dr. G. Ziegenhagel & Associates, and will have live music and pancakes of course.

When: Wednesday July 9 from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m.

What: The event, sponsored by Cochrane Toyota, is free with a donation of a non-perishable food item for the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank. There will be bouncers and face painting as well.

When: Saturday July 19 at 8 a.m. at the Bragg Creek Centre

What: The annual breakfast is part of Bragg Creek Days happening in Bragg Creek July 18 and 19 this year.
