The more than 20 committee members for the approaching 46th annual Cochrane and District Old Tyme Country Fair are hopeful that this won’t mark the final year for the family fair.
The Cochrane and area event is run by the Bearspaw Fair Committee.
“It’s so sad,” remarked current president and nearly 15-year member, Cochranite Sylvia Kovacevic. “We’re hoping for a good turnout and for some people to step forward who don’t want to see it end and to help out.”
With dwindling turnouts and a diminishing interest from vendors, Kovacevic said she is uncertain as to why there seems to be declining interest.
The family event will run from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Aug. 24, at the Spray Lake Sawmills (SLS) Centre; bench show entries and vendors table set-up takes place Aug. 23.
For $3/adult, $1/child under 12 and free admission for preschool-aged children and younger, the variety of entertainment is considerable and includes a petting zoo courtesy of Butterfield Acres, rabbit shows and hopping competitions, a dog show, a treasure hunt in hay bales, zucchini races, clowns courtesy of Al Azhar Shriners, vendors, food vendors and even an appearance from the Cochrane Rodeo Royalty.
