It’s that time of year again; time for Cochranites to cast their ballots for the 2013 Cochrane Community Awards.
So, if you have a favourite local business, artist, community member, or organization, make sure to get your nominations in to the awards committee by April 12.
“This is an opportunity to recognize the people who give back to the community, those who give their time and talent to better Cochrane,” said Joann Churchill, town councillor and committee chair.
There are 12 divisions to consider:
• Mayor and Council’s Order of Cochrane
• Ambassador of the Year
• Volunteer Group of the Year
• Community Builder of the Year
• Employer of the Year
• Newsmaker of the Year
• Education in Action
• Youth of the Year
• Business of the Year
• Citizen of the Year
• Senior of the Year
• Pathfinder of the Year
Once nominated, the committee will select this year’s winner.
The highest honour will be bestowed in awarding this year’s recipient of the Mayor and Council’s Order of Cochrane, said Churchill. Selected by town council, the winner of this award — be they an individual or group — will be someone who has left a lasting legacy on Cochrane.
Past winners of this award include Gordon Davies, Jimmy and Christina MacKay family and Spray Lake Sawmills’ Barry Mjolsness.
“These members of the community — this is what Cochrane’s about,” said Churchill. “There are so many people who are doing great work in this community. Let’s honour them.”
Nomination forms can be found online at ccawards.ca or be picked up in hard copy from Cochrane Family and Community Support Services or the Town of Cochrane. To help selectors, Churchill recommended forms be filled out with as much information as possible.
Awards will handed out during an afternoon luncheon and ceremony at the Cochrane RancheHouse May 26.
