A request from the Girl Guides has led Cochrane town council to proclaim Oct. 11 International Day of the Girl.
International Day of the Girl is meant to honour and empower girls everywhere by respecting their human rights and amplifying their voices.
The day was first officially declared by the United Nations in 2011 to promote equality for girls around the world through access to necessities such as education and birth control.
