The team at the Town of Cochrane recreation and culture department have reason to celebrate, as their initiatives earned Cochrane recognition as a ‘High Achiever Community’ in the Communities Choose Well Program.

The Communities Choose Well Program is a provincial program supported by Alberta Health and Wellness and Alberta Parks and Recreation that challenges communities to step up to the plate with healthy living and eating initiatives.

The recreation and culture department also earned themselves a $2,000 grant at the Communities Choose Well Recognition Ceremonies that were held in High River on Nov. 22.

“Our staff is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of our residents, as we strive to offer a variety of fun and healthy programs,” said Tracy Smyth, manager of the town’s recreation and culture department.

The three community initiatives the department was recognized for include their participation in the 21 Days of Healthy Eating program, their ‘Go Girl!’ youth initiative and their Women’s Walking Group.
