Wildrose Party getting ready for next election

The Wildrose Alliance Party of Alberta will be making an announcement in the coming weeks, opening up nominations for the Banff-Cochrane riding for the next provincial election.

The Wildrose Alliance Party of Alberta will be making an announcement in the coming weeks, opening up nominations for the Banff-Cochrane riding for the next provincial election.

David Smith, president of the Banff-Cochrane Wildrose Constituency Association, said a nomination committee is currently being put together and the party wants to be ready in the event of an early provincial election, which is slated for the fall of 2016.

“It’s going to be a tighter race this time…the PCs are taking us more seriously,” said Smith, adding that since becoming the official opposition, the party will be ‘tightening up candidate criteria’.

“The vetting process is more stringent…we’re becoming more sophisticated as an official opposition party,” said Smith, adding this is ‘an exciting time’ to be involved with the Wildrose Alliance Party.

Smith said that they are anticipating 3-4 candidates to run and following the nomination race, the party would like to have a candidate selected this fall.

Local rancher Tom Copithorne was the nominee for the 2012 Banff-Cochrane riding for the Wildrose Alliance Party.
