The Cochrane Young Singers will be filling the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with the sounds of the season this Dec. 15, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Led by choral director, Erica Phare-Bergh, the junior and senior choirs will set the tone for the annual ‘Christmas in the Country’ event, which includes a barbecue, bonfire, horse-drawn hayrides, hot chocolate and story telling.
Admission to the event is by donation to the Angel Ministry Fund — a church initiative that seeks to help local families through education, as well provide assistance to families in need.
“The performance is a prelude to the ‘Christmas in the Country’ event…it’s also our first time with our new uniforms,” said Phare-Bergh, adding that the choral group is “stepping it up a notch”, sporting bow ties and dresses.
With some 40 kids in the two choirs, the Cochrane Young Singers includes kids from Grade 2 through high school.
The choir (formerly the Cochrane Children’s Choir) started out in 2009 as the local outlet for young voices; they perform at numerous community events throughout the year.
“We will be accepting new choristers this January and will be participating in Choralfest (held in Calgary in March),” said Phare-Bergh, adding that rehearsals take place Jan. 7 from 6-8 p.m. at St. Peter’s.
