A Cochrane youth is facing several charges after using counterfeit money and trying to flee police.
The 16-year-old male attempted to use a fake $20 American bill on Sept. 10 for services received. The victim went to a bank to confirm the bill was counterfeit before contacting police.
The RCMP was able to identify and locate the male, with help from the victim. When police tried to apprehend the 16-year-old he tried to flee but was caught “before he could get far.”
The Cochrane youth has been charged with possession of counterfeit money, two charges of utter/export of counterfeit money, two charges of possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000, identity theft, resisting/obstructing a peace officer, and altering a firearms licence.
The Cochrane RCMP is also investigating a second complaint of counterfeit American bills being used at a separate business.
If you have any information about this or any other incident, contact the Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
