Cochrane Lions Atom football team finished their season undefeated at Shouldice Park, beating Calgary Mavericks 5-1.

Touchdowns from Ethan Clazie, Madden Hampson, and Josh Lyszkiewicz (son of assistant coach and former CFL player Leon Lyszkiewicz) ensured that the Cochrane side ended their ten-game season as kings of the hill after some doubts at the start of the campaign.

“From the beginning of the year, we didn’t think we were going to win any games, and then we went undefeated,” said Zul Verjee, Lions head coach. “So it was a really great season.

“I’ve very proud of these guys, they all came together and bonded as a team.

“A lot of these boys were first-year players. We had a good strong nucleus of seven second and third-year players as well, so it was nice to see them come together and achieve something like this.”
