The Bow Valley Bobcats finally got themselves back into the win column after a 31-19 victory over the Chestermere Cowboys on Oct. 5 to bump themselves up to fourth in the Rockyview league.
The 31 point outburst was the highest point total the Bobcats have put up this season, after managing only a grand total of 20 points in the four games prior … Bobcats head coach Cam Cote said his team is starting to put the pieces together.
“We’re starting to become the team we want to be… we knew at the start of the year we were rebuilding at a few positions, but they’re starting to come together and it was reflective in the game,” Cote said.
“We played extremely well, everybody really stepped up and we managed to get everybody into the game. Everybody contributed and it was a great team effort.”
The Bobcats have a number of games coming up, including a pair of exhibition games, sandwiching a make up game from Sept. 8 against Bert Church that was cancelled due to air quality. The Bobcats will also take on cross-town rivals Cochrane High on Nov. 4.
Cote hopes his team will continue their success against the Cowboys.
“I just want to see continued improvement from the guys. We always come out of the blocks a little bit slow at Bow Valley, that always seems to be the way we start the season, but we always finish strong,” Cote said.
“We’re well on our way with the win over Chestermere in doing that, so we’ll prepare for Cochrane, which is obviously going to be a tough test. But they’ve won the past three provincial championships … so there’s not pressure on us, and all the pressure is on them. We’ll just go out and work towards it and see if we can put a scare into them.”
While the date of the rescheduled game against Bert Church is unknown, the Bobcats have a good chance to even their record on the season to 3-3. The Chargers are 0-4 heading into the Oct. 14 match up with Cochrane High, who is undefeated at 5-0.
The Chargers have only registered 35 points of offence, with their highest total being seven points in three separate games against Chestermere, Springbank and W.H. Croxford.
The Bobcats will hit the road to take on the Pincher Creek Mustangs in an exhibition game on Oct. 14.
