Cochranite Anne-Sophie Levesque and her Canadian Young Rider Eventing Team jumped their way to a bronze medal at the 2017 Adequan/FEI North American Junior & Young Rider Championships in Kalispell, Montana July 18 to 21.
“It’s exciting, I’m proud,” Levesque said. “I put in my best efforts for my team and myself.”
“I think they did awesome,” said her mother, Julie, who was on the sidelines to cheer her daughter on. “I think they did so good.”
Levesque started jumping at the young age of six at Simpson’s Equine Activities and Levesque’s coach and biggest inspiration, Sarah Simpson, said she was born to jump.
“She likes high risk … she’s a fast and furious kind of kid,” Simpson said. “It’s in her blood.”
From the beginning, Levesque needed a horse that matched her spirit – and Simpson had the perfect horse in mind.
“They were both tough little nuts … they were hard to crack,” Simpson stated of Levesque’s and Freckles’ shared determination.
Simpson stated it took a bit of convincing before Levesque’s mother would allow the two to train together.
The horse was high-spirited and intimidating but it was also perfect for Levesque.
“They were both stubborn … both talented in their own way,” Julie stated. “Both full of attitude.”
From that moment, Levesque’s passion for horse jumping blossomed and she has since set the bar high.
She and her current horse, Eskapade “Paddy,” are currently training out of Fast Track Farms in Snohomish, WA, and Levesque dreams of one day competing in the Olympics.
“It’s always been a dream and a long-term goal,” Levesque said.
“But, it all depends on funding and luck.”
