The Cochrane Chaos women’s junior hockey team has now won back-to-back games after a 5-2 victory over the winless Lethbridge Eagles on Oct. 29 at the Nicholas Sheran Ice Centre in Lethbridge.

The game was scoreless after the first period, before the Chaos exploded for three goals in the second frame to give Cochrane a 3-0 lead. The Chaos also potted a pair of goals in the third to counteract the Eagles, who had two goals of their own in the third.

Faith Gette led the way for the Chaos with two assists, while five different Cochrane players had goals, including Audrey Buston, Summer Gibbons, Shelby Kirkpatrick, Kiera Davidson and Melanie Scholz.

Goaltender Jenna Weseen chalked up the win for the Chaos, only allowing one goal on 28 shots before Megan Parkyn came in for five minutes of the contest, stopping four of five shots. Weseen left the game after a collision with a Lethbridge. She returned to the game later.

The Chaos have a league-high 43 goals in eight games this season, for an average of five goals per game. Loomer says it’s important for his team to have a balanced attack.

“As a coach, it is a good feeling to know you can look to any line to provide offence. Right from out first game this season, we could see the creativity of our players and the determination to score,” Loomer said.

“As a coaching staff, we just need to nurture that and ensure everyone gets the opportunity to contribute. From the other side, I know it makes us harder to defend against.”

Cochrane will play the Eagles again on Nov. 3, before playing the league leading and undefeated Central Alberta Amazons the following night. Loomer said his team will need to play to their strengths in order to come away with a pair of victories.

“With back-to-back games we know what we can expect and just have the comfort of playing the (Lethbridge) Eagles at home. I expect we will come out strong in front of our home crowd,” Loomer said.

“As for the Amazons, we haven’t played them yet this season … so our approach will be to play our game and make adjustments as necessary during the game. Hopefully we come out strong and force them to make the majority of the adjustments.”

Puck drop for the Nov. 3 game against Lethbridge will go at 7 p.m. at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Center Totem 1.
