If you never wrote anything else about Cochrane High School Cobras varsity girl’s soccer team, the dictionary definition would suffice.
Cobras are 2015 Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association (ASAA) South Central Zone champions and Rocky View Sports Association (RVSA) District champions, allowing not a goal in either post-season tournament.
It was the sixth of seven Zone titles and seventh-straight Division title for Cobras varsity girl’s soccer.
Cochrane High went 4-0-1 in the RVSA regular season, outscoring opponents 35-4, the only hiccup a season-opening 2-2 tie with Springbank Community High School Phoenix, a team Cobras went on to defeat 2-0 at Zones Oct. 3 in Carstairs and 3-0 at Oct. 8 Divisionals in Airdrie.
“They kicked it into high gear for this game. They were fit from the beginning to the end,” Cobras head coach Carolyn McLeod said of her squad. “There were some players who played the whole 90 minutes.”
And they had to be on the top of their game as Springbank wasn’t making it easy in the Oct. 8 Division final. Both teams controlled the ball well setting up scoring chances at both ends of the field.
“It was a really good game,” McLeod remarked. “They (Springbank) put together some good offensive action. They never, never quit. Right until the final whistle. That speaks to the character of their school, their team and their program. We really look forward to playing them.”
Carly Neis (2) and and Delaney Vanderwater scored for Cobras in the Division final with Emily Carter earning the shutout in goal.
