The Cochrane High School Cobras dished out multiple awards on June 10 in recognition of their students’ athletic achievement throughout the year.
Anne Roth (cross-country, soccer, basketball, track and field) and Skylar Sieben (cross-country, volleyball, badminton and track and field) tied for the Junior Varsity Girls Athlete of the Year award, while Joseph Cline (volleyball, basketball, badminton, soccer, track and field) walked away with the Junior Varsity Boys Athlete of the Year title.
At the senior level, Taylor Chace (soccer, curling, basketball, badminton, track and field) was crowned Varsity Girls Athlete of the Year winner, and Ethan Forrest (football, basketball, soccer, track and field) was the varsity boys award winner.
Several graduating athletes were also on hand for the Cobras Signing Day, recognizing athletes who have been signed by university or college teams.
Carly Nies (soccer) and Nicolette Seper (hockey) will both be heading to Mount Royal University next year, as will Brennan Willis (volleyball).
The Cobras have a strong contingent heading to the University of Calgary next season, Erik Nusl (football), Michael Scott (football), Nic Berscht (volleyball), and Jake Nielson (basketball) all set to be Dinos.
Cochrane High also had a strong showing in the Canadian Junior Football League, with Justin Sambu having signed for the Calgary Colts, and Cole Avery with the Kamloops Broncos.
Men’s volleyball player Luke Harvey will be heading to UBC Okanagan, while Ali Leskow (volleyball) will be joining Ambrose University.
Other women’s volleyball players Jade Van Dyke and Makenzie Gladue are off to Red Deer College and MacEwan University respectively.
