It’s that time of the year again when soccer enthusiasts from in and around town have one last hurrah as the outdoor season comes to a close.
The Cochrane Rangers Soccer Club will be holding the Cochrane Cup tournament over the weekend of Sept. 17 and 18 on fields across town.
“We’re going to have around 24 teams,” said Rangers president Paul Tas. “That’s the biggest amount we can have but there might be one or two more.”
This is the 35th year the event has been held and Tas says there’s more than just the standard teams coming from around Cochrane and Calgary for this edition.
“We’ve got a good mix this year,” Tas said.
“We’ve got local teams and Calgary teams obviously but, we also have groups coming from Edmonton, Red Deer, Banff, Canmore, Leduc and Lethbridge.”
There will be teams in the open women’s and the over-35 women’s divisions, as well as the same age groups for men.
Games will be played at the Rangers Field as well as Spray Lake Sawmills Legacy Field and Mitford Middle School.
The tournament is set to begin at 8 a.m. on the 17th, and all spectators are welcome.
