Cochranites rock Alberta Winter Games

Local athletes did Cochrane proud at the Alberta Winter Games in Medicine Hat on Feb. 13-16. 40 athletes represented Zone 2, and 12 brought home medals.

Local athletes did Cochrane proud at the Alberta Winter Games in Medicine Hat on Feb. 13-16. 40 athletes represented Zone 2, and 12 brought home medals.

Julianna MacKenzie and her partner Mathias Babin (of Okotoks) won a bronze in mixed doubles curling.

Wrestlers (all of whom are Cochrane Cowboys members) Danika Cook (gold), Naomi Cook (bronze), Elijah Springer (bronze), and Connor Pointen (gold) picked up medals. Isaiah Springer finished in a respectable fifth place, while Berg Thompson also had a strong showing, ending up fourth.

Rival Boxing Club members Maxence Roussel (gold), Lewis Chiddle, Jude Wilkinson, and Luke Foster all grabbed silver medals in their categories.

Biathlon athlete Erik Skarsgard won a silver in male individual, and a bronze in the super sprint. Holly Moores finished sixth, while Sarah Laflamme finished eighth in their respective biathlon categories.

In archery, Warren Collins captured a gold medal.

Ava Holman placed 10th overall in the cross country sprint.
