The Cochrane Generals have lost four straight games after another pair of weekend losses on Oct. 20 and 21.

The Gens closed out their six-game home stand, in which the team went 3-3 in the process including a 5-3 loss to the Mountainview Colts. The Colts were up 2-0 before the 10-minute mark of the first period, before Austin Keller scored a power play goal to make it 2-1.

Mountainview would extend their lead in the second period to 4-1 before rookie forward Harry Osler scored his third of the season to make the game 4-2 … Scott Shugg pulled Cochrane within one early in the third, but that’s the closest the Gens would come as Mountainview scored the game’s final goal less than a minute after Cochrane had made it 4-3.

Benjamin Daumler got the start in goal for the home side; making 22 saves on the 27 shots. Cochrane outshot the Colts 40-27 and went one for two on the power play.

The Generals hit the road the following night to Coaldale to take on the Copperheads, and fell 6-1 in a game that Coaldale never trailed. The Copperheads led 3-0 after the first period, and 5-0, before Slater Ransom tallied his fifth of the year to make it 5-1 at the 4:40 mark on the second period. The Copperheads scored once more to give the game its final score.

Erik Garber got the start for the Gens, but was yanked after allowing four goals on eleven shots … back up and newcomer Trei Weber replaced Garber and turned away nine of the eleven shots he faced during the contest.

The streaky Gens now have a record of 4-6 on the season, and seem to have trouble finding consistency in their game. Cochrane has a four-game winning streak this year, sandwiched between a two- and four-game losing streak.

Assistant captain Talus Hume says the team is more than capable of putting together a full 60-minute effort.

“We hold ourselves to a much higher standard than our record indicates and right now it’s just not good enough,” Hume said.

“We need to play a full 60 minutes and stay disciplined. Practice this week should prepare us for the tough stretch of games we have ahead.”

The Generals have outshot the majority of their opponents this season, snd Hume feels like the team has had quality chances to score.

“It’s going to change. We have to much skill upfront for our offence to continue the way it has,” Hume said.

Cochrane will once again be in Coaldale on Oct. 28 before returning home on Nov. 4 to host the Okotoks Bisons.
