If you want to mix and mingle with your favourite Cochrane General – and maybe even take one home – this is the year Santa just might grant your wish.
The hockey club is hosting an Ugly Christmas Sweater Pub Night on Friday Nov. 25 at The Venue Bar & Grill, and a highlight of the fundraiser is an auction of the Gens forwards, goalies and defensive line.
“People can actually bid on the players,” said organizer Jacquie Thrussell. “You might want your Christmas lights put up … have Chad Harrison come to a kids’ practice. Anything.”
Thrussell said a website will soon be live online, so fans and businesses can begin the bidding wars. It’s a great way to get to know players outside of their team environment, and since many are in post-secondary education and have valuable skills in accounting and business, Thrussell encourages businesses to get in on the auction action, too.
The winners of each player will be announced at the pub night, which begins with cocktails at 6:30 p.m. A $30 ticket earns partygoers a three-course turkey dinner and one drink. People can participate in the player auction or a silent auction, and the reveller with the most frightful winter frock will take home a prize (and bragging rights).
Tickets are available at any of the Cochrane Generals home games or by contacting any player or family member.
