Marcos Gloria, 27, from Central de Minas, Brazil, who sits first in the BRC (Bull Riders Canada) standings, will be competing in the Cochrane Classic Bull Riding event for the second year in a row.
The Cochrane Classic will take place on Aug. 19 at the Cochrane & District AG Society.
His secret to success has been hard work and dedication – and the love for the sport.
“I just love riding,” Gloria’s said through his interpreter, Andre Portes, in an online interview. “And I have a desire to win and make enough money to build a better future for myself and my daughter.”
Gloria’s bucking inspiration came from two friends who were professional riders. Now riding fulltime, he wants to use his gift to go as far as he can.
I hope to build my life and conquer everything bull riding,” Gloria said.
Portes, Gloria’s good friend for the past 10 years and interpreter, has been an amazing support system.
“We are friends … I’m just helping him,” Portes said. “Kinda showing him the way so in the future he can follow his way – and I hope he can achieve his dreams.”
This isn’t Portes’ first rodeo – he and his father were bull riders who have travelled all over Canada and U.S. Portes loves the rodeo community – being with Gloria gives him a sense of pride.
It’s awesome to travel with him,” Portes said. “I can see how hard he tries to be a champion.”
Gloria couldn’t be more thankful for all of Portes help.
“We’re very good friends … I can trust him,” Gloria stated. ‘Without him I couldn’t compete here.”
As of Aug. 10 on the BRC 2017 V Standings site, Gloria has won $10,410 and has earned 2,220 points so far this season.
