Generals have added former captain Logan Brown to the coaching staff to help out with the defencemen.
Brown joined the Gens in 2012, and finished his junior career last season. He played 140 games for the Generals, where he had six goals and 33 assists for a total of 39 points in those contests.
Brown missed the majority of last season due to injury, but still played a key part in the Generals’ run to the league final, as well as helping his team win a silver medal at the provincial championships.
Brown says it was important for him to give back to the team he played for.
“I have been with the Generals close to six years and had been a captain for three so I wanted to stay involved in the organization somehow. A few of my past teammates still play for the Gens and were partially responsible for my decision to come back. I want them to have a great year, and I want to help them continue to develop. I also wanted to help the team out anyway I could where my skills and knowledge of the game and also the league can factor into the team’s success this year.”
While Brown isn’t a part of the coaching staff full time, he’d like to help out as much as possible while he’s not in school. He feels head coach Derek Donald has the qualifications to push Cochrane over the final hurdle of winning a championship, something the team struggled with the past two seasons.
“I just met him (Donald) over this last weekend so I’m still getting to know him. So far he seems to have a very lengthy background managing, playing and coaching the game. He also seems to have good communication with the team as well of a different approach to the team with regards to the focus of developing players.” Brown said. “He has a good core of returning players which should help him on getting the team ready to go early in the season. Hopefully, the team and himself will have just as of a successful year as the two previous years we had.”
