The Cochrane Generals continue to be unbeaten at home after mowing down the Mountainview Colts in front of a solid hometown crowd last Saturday night.

“We haven’t lost a regular season home game,” a proud general manager Jacqueline Hurlbert said after the Gens’ big win.

This weekend was the first time the teams have met since the Colts yanked the Heritage Junior Hockey League championship away from the Gens in Game 6 of last season’s final series.

The first meeting took place Friday in Didsbury, where the Colts added a W to their stats – but the Generals came back with a vengeance on home ice the next day. The teams battled it out for the first two periods until the Gens pulled away in the game’s second half to earn an outstanding 8-4 victory.

Head coach Dan Gendur said his players fought hard against the team that stole their banner last season – and will be gunning for it this year, too.

“We all have the same goals,” he said.

At 13-2, Cochrane still leads the league in wins and also employs scoring leader Slater Ransom, who logged two goals and two assists in Saturday’s match-up and another three goals on Sunday against the Ponoka Stampeders.

“He’s a veteran player who’s got a lot of skill,” Gendur said. “Guys look up to him (because of) how skilled he is.”

The Gens look to continue their at home winning streak when they take on the second-place Coaldale Copperheads (11-1) Friday night at 7:30 p.m., followed by a match-up against the Medicine Hat Cubs on Saturday.
