The Cochrane Generals recently gave out their year-end awards at the Wintergreen Golf Club on July 9.
The club’s board of directors and staff chose the award winners.
Star forward Slater Ransom took home the top scorer award after scoring 60 points (26 goals, 34 assists).
Rookie of the year went to Colton Wong, who saw time on all four of the Gens’ lines throughout the season providing consistent and reliable contributions.
Forward Brett Berndt, 21, was awarded the Most Improved Player of the Year, and was called by, “the league’s best penalty killer,” by head coach Evan McFeeters.
Best defenceman, was Brett Hamer who provided the team with excellent leadership throughout the year as well as contributing 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in 33 regular-season games.
The Most Dedicated Player of the Year was given to blueline grinder Logan Brown, who put everything on the line for his team and was commended for his punctuality, showing up to every practice and every game.
Forward Corey Goeson was the winner of the Coaches Choice award, “The Goose” was someone McFeeters felt, “played his heart out every game, played through injuries, and could be relied on when the going got tough.”
Playoff performer was given to Chad Harrison who had a stellar campaign during the post-season, picking up 35 points (17 goals, 18 assists) in 15 games.
Netminder Ty Robinson picked up the prestigious Most Valuable Player award, after having a huge season as a rock between the pipes, recording a 3.15 GAA (goals against average).
