The Cochrane Generals started their season with a pair of lopsided road losses to the Okotoks Bisons and the Strathmore Wheatland Kings. The Gens fell 10-3 on Sept. 22 to Okotoks, and followed that up with a 6-2 defeat to Strathmore the following day.
Newcomer Jarod Domingo scored twice for the Gens, while Austin Keller chipped in with a goal in the game against the Bisons. Goaltender Benjamin Daulmer started the game, but was replaced by Jared Kaine to start the third period. Daulmer stopped 17 of the 23 shots he faced, while Kaine made four saves on the eights shots he faced in his brief relieve appearance.
In the game against Strathmore, Talus Hume and Walid Hassin did the damage for Cochrane before the Kings pulled away later in the game. Kaine stopped 20 of the 26 shots he faced in the game.
Generals forward Talus Hume says it was a tough way to start the year, but the team will work on some things and try to bounce back this weekend.
“It’s something we need to learn from and put behind us,” Hume said.
“”It wasn’t the start we were looking for but it’s still very early in the season. Our chemistry is still growing and our systems are beginning to fall into place so I’m confident our team will bounce back.”
The start is a stark contrast to the 2016/2017 season when the Generals stormed through the league with an 11-game winning streak .
Cochrane will look to rebound this weekend when they’re in Airdrie to take on the Thunder on Sept. 29 before returning home for their home opener the next day against the Ponoka Stampeders.
