What a way to bounce back!
After dropping two games in a row, the Bow Valley Grizzlies have their Calgary Rugby Union Division Two season back on track in a big way, after a crushing 43-5 away win over the Lethbridge Rugby Club on June 11.
“The boys came out and really performed,” said Grizzlies player/coach Tyler Hawes. “It was a good game, we worked to our game plan and had a good lead up going in. We had good numbers at training during the week and we able to perfect our plan.”
The Grizz have been working on a new offensive plan in the last several weeks and that hard work was rewarded, as they crushed a team who they had previously beaten 37-13 on May 14.
“The quality of the opposition might not have been as good as the previous two games, but things went well,” Hawes said. “We always focus on skill stuff in training, and since we didn’t have a lot of guys at training before our game against the Canucks the week before, we looked a bit disjointed trying out our new offence.
“Putting the extra work in made all the difference.”
The Grizz don’t play again until the 25th, when they’ll be facing the Calgary Hornets, the team who knocked them out in last season’s championship semi-final.
“It’s going to be a good test to see where we’re at,” Hawes said. “The boys have laid down some goals this season, and they want to be better than they were last year, which doesn’t leave a lot of wiggle room.
“The end goal is to make the playoffs. Once we do that, we’ll take it one game at a time and go from there.”
