Contrary to what the old phrase might say, the third time isn’t always a charm.
The Rockyview Rage Midget B lacrosse team knows something about this.
After losing the first two games of their Calgary District Lacrosse Association (CDLA) season, the team made it three-for-three as they fell 15-1 to the Calgary Hornets at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre on May 9.
Captain Ethan McMullen scored the only goal in the one-sided game as the home team struggled from the get-go with the Hornets’ pace and transition.
“We’ve had a quick start to our season with some unforeseen chances early on,” said Rage head coach Jason Oakey. “There’s a lot of good players on our team with a lot of skill, but a bunch of them haven’t played together before.”
Due to CDLA’s changes to its Midget A division, the league has seen an increase of better players come down to the B league, which has led to tougher competition this term.
“A lot of these higher-level players have played together for quite a few years, so we’re kind of in a perfect storm, and have our work cut out for us this season.
“We just need to get a few more practices in so the players know what the coaches want from them and we’ll be okay.”
