The Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) has announced that Kyle Rock will be joining the organization as its new Rodeo Administrator effective immediately.
The 38-year old Cochrane resident is a third-generation cowboy, who brings both a rodeo and business background to the position. Rock’s grandfather, Bryce Mailer, his uncle, Lewis, and his mother, Robyn were all time event competitors in rodeo. Rock himself, was a two-time Canadian Intercollegiate Bareback Champion.
He was also a finalist in three semi-professional associations (FCA, LRA, and CCA), as well as being a two-time FCA season leader and the 2013 Foothills Cowboy Association Cowboy of the Year. Rock also served for six years on the FCA Board of Directors and worked as a rodeo judge since his retirement from competition in 2010.
Rock graduated from Mount Royal College (Applied Communications degree program majoring in Journalism) and Olds College (Land Resource Management majoring in Land Reclamation). He has spent the last five years working in the oil and gas industry, in sales, account management, and contract negotiations.
The cowboy will now be working closely with CPRA’s General Manager Dan Eddy in his new position.
“We’re tremendously enthusiastic about welcoming Kyle Rock into the fold,” Eddy said. “His dual background – rodeo and business – promise to make him a great asset as we move forward.”
“I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead,” Rock commented. “It is a very exciting time for rodeo and I look forward to being a positive part of the changes to come.
“I want to be a solid fixture that contestants, committees, and the membership as a whole can rely on for a very long time. I’m delighted to have the opportunity to work with everyone involved with Pro Rodeo Canada.
“I hope to be part of the process of moving rodeo into what I see as a bright future.”
