Milans mix results at CFR

Cochrane steer wrestlers Straws, Baillie and Tanner Milan hit the dirt with mixed results at the Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR) from Nov. 8 through Nov. 12 at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton.

The trio got off to a rough start on Nov. 8, getting shut out of the money lead, as Straws was the only one of the three brothers to even get his steer to the ground with a time of 5.9 seconds … Tanner and Baillie took a no time during their performance.

Brendan Laye of Consort, Alta., took over the money lead with a 3.1 run, netting him $11,212,50 and bringing his total on the year to $31,450.67, which was $265 ahead of Tanner Milan who went into the CFR leading the standings.

The following night was much more successful for the brothers, as Tanner moved back into the steer wrestling lead for the season with a second place run with a time of 4.1 seconds to finish behind a 3.8 run by Curtis Cassidy. Tanner took home $8,337.50 to bump his total earnings up to $39,523.42. Straws was right behind his brother with a 4.2 run which was good for third place, earning him $5,462.50. Baillie finished with a time of 5.1.

Nov. 10, 11 and 12 were also fairly successful for the Cochranites, Straws finished in first place twice, with times of 3.1 and 3.7. He earned $30,475 over the course of CFR, bringing his total earnings to $50,653.64. Tanner had a fifth and sixth place finish in the final three days, tallying up $9,487.50 during the event, which brought his total earnings to $40,673.42. Baillie had a bit of a rough go over the duration of the event, with his best finish being sixth. He added $575.00 to bring his total earnings to $21,901.31.

Jason Thomas of Benton, AZ, slightly beat out Straws for the Steer Wrestling Championship, earning $42,550.00 during CFR to improve his total earnings to $59,177.23.
