Matt Minglewood Band, led by none other than Matt Minglewood himself, will be playing at the Venue on Oct. 10. The four-member band is a musical hybrid of blues, country and rock.
Minglewood grew up in North Sydney, NS, in a large family of 12. Performing in front of his first audience at the age of four, music has always been in Minglewood’s life – he learned to play the fiddle, piano and guitar all before or during his teen years.
“Music was very serious to me, and personally I didn’t really have a choice,” Minglewood said.
“I wouldn’t change anything though, I have a really loyal fan base, and I make a living playing music. I wouldn’t be anything else, and when I started out I wanted to be a professional musician.”
He joined his first band, the Rockin’ Saints, in his late teens playing organ and rhythm guitar. He then went on to join a band called Sam Moon, Matt Minglewood and the Universal Power, this band soon turned into Moon Minglewood Band, where they toured the country and became known as one of the hardest working bands in the country.
By the mid 1970s, the band once again had a name change, transforming into Minglewood Band. Soon after the band recorded its first album –The Red Album – in 1976. A recording contract with RCA Records followed.
The band has been honoured with numerous accolades, music awards and nominations including three gold albums and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Maple Blue Society in 2013.
Minglewood is very excited to be returning to Cochrane, a town he hasn’t played in for a while. He hopes to leave a lasting impression on the crowd at the Venue.
“We have quite the fan base out in Alberta, and I haven’t played in Cochrane in quite some time. My band and I give off the vibe that we’re having fun and like all shows. I hope when people leave they have a smile on their face,” Minglewood said.
For those interested in buying tickets, they are available at www.mattminglewood.com as well as the Venue for $15.
