Once again Cochrane Piranhas Swim Club members have proven themselves to be among the best in southern Alberta after another strong showing at the High River Otters Swim Meet on June 25.
The club sent 43 swimmers to the event, and many came back home with top three podium positions.
Ben Barclay placed first in the boys (ages nine and 10) 50m backstroke and 25m fly, as well as second in the 100m individual medley race and fourth in the 50m breaststroke.
Eli Fitzsimmons grabbed second in the boys (seven and eight-year-olds) 25m back stroke and Sydney Blydo picked up third in the girls 50m back stroke event in the same age category.
Stephanie Gross finished first overall in the girls (ages 15 to 17) 50m backstroke and came in second during the 100m butterfly events and third in the 100m breaststroke competition.
Jordyn Johnsen placed first in the girls (ages 11 and 12) 50m freestyle and 400m freestyle events, and Owen Johnsen nabbed third in the boys (ages nine and 10) 100m freestyle competition.
Zachary Michalski placed first in the boys (15 and 17-year-olds) 100m individual medley, and second in both the 100m freestyle and 400m freestyle events.
Keegan Lewko picked up third in the boys (ages nine and 10) 25m back stroke competition and Sarah Nusl came first in the girls (ages 13 and 14) 100m backstroke, second in the 50m fly and 50m back stroke competitions, plus third in the 50m freestyle event.
Kade Peterson bagged third in the boys (ages seven and eight) 25m backstroke, and Josie Powers also picked up a third-place finish in the girls (ages nine and 10) 25 backstroke event.
Connor Swedlo came in third during the boys (15 to 17-year-olds) 50m back stroke, and his brother Eric put in a stellar performance, picking up first in the boys (ages 13 to 14) 100m breast stroke, 400m freestyle, 50m breast stroke competitions, and third in the 100m fly.
The Piranhas relay teams also put in solid performance yet again, with the girls 17 and under team (Gross, Nusl, Johnsen, and Kennedy Michalski) placing first in the 200m medley relay.
The boys eight and under side (Petersen, Isaac Thibodeau, Aiden Carnegie, and Sebastian Marks) came second in the 100m medley relay event.
The boys 10 and under team (Barclay, Lewko, Owen Johnsen, and Aaron Swedlo) grabbed a second-place finish in the 100m medley relay, while the boys 17 and under squad (Jake Barclay, Zachary Michalski, and Connor and Eric Swedlo) walked away with first place in the 200m medley relay.
Well done to all the Piranhas swimmers that participated. The Calgary Swordfish Swim Club will host the club’s next meet on July 16 at the University of Calgary pool.
