The Cochrane Piranhas Swim Club closed down its regular-season the same way it opened: with resounding success.

The club sent 36 swimmers to the Calgary Tritons Swim Club Meet at the Talisman Centre, and 34 of them achieved personal best times, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication the swimmers have put in all season.

Once again, Ben Barclay was a standout among the Piranhas squad, picking up two first-place finishes in the boys (ages nine and 10) 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle events, as well as two third-place finishes in the 100m individual medley and 50m freestyle.

Kaitlyn Eiserman picked up a second place finish in the girls (ages seven and eight) 25m freestyle, while Stephanie Gross had a couple of excellent swims with a second place finish in the girls (ages 15 and 17) 50m backstroke and third place in the 50m freestyle and 800m freestyle events.

Jordyn Johnson came in third in the girls (ages 11 and 12) 100m freestyle and Zachary Michalski nabbed second in the boys (ages 15 and 17) 200m individual medley.

Sarah Nusl continued her dominant form in the girls (ages 13 and 14) events, coming out with two first-place finishes in the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke competitions and second place in both the 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley events.

Eric Swedlo also closed down the regular season in fine form, with three first-place finishes in the boys (ages 13 and 14) 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, and 100m breaststroke.

Piranhas coach Duncan Swedlo also had a chance to strut his stuff as he came off the sidelines and picked up a first place finish in the boys (ages 18 and over) 100m freestyle competition.

The club’s relay teams also picked up multiple podium positions, with the boys U17 squad consisting of Jake Barclay, Kennedy Michalski, Zachary Michalski, and Jordyn Johnsen bagging a first place finish.

In the boys U12 200m medley competition, Bryson Hammer, Max Kruger, Levi Lewko and Ben Barclay placed second in the 200m freestyle relay and third in the 200m medley.

The girls U12 team (Natalie Barreto-Waringer, Bria Michalski, Jacquie Schweiger, and Catherine Swedlo) also came second in the 200m medley relay.

The U8 girls team of Kaitlyn Eiserman, Charleigh Jenson, Sage Jenson, and Savanna Knisley picked up a second place finish in the 100m freestyle, while the girls U17 team (Stephanie Gross, Kennedy Michalski, Johnsen, and Nusl) took home bronze in the 200m freestyle.

Rounding things out, Nusl, Gross, Eric and Duncan Swedlo took home the gold in the open 200m medley relay category.

The Piranhas are next heading to the Region E Regional Event at the Talisman Centre on Aug 13 and 14, where swimmers will compete in Provincial Championship qualifiers.
