The Bow Valley Credit Union recently announced their First Goal Hockey Program is in full swing.
The program, introduced this fall, allows young hockey players to go to the Bow Valley Credit Union’s website after they have scored their first goal and record the details.
“The program was something that we started this year,” said Scott Grattidge, Manager of Retail Operations at Bow Valley Credit Union. “We ordered a bunch of hockey pucks and got in touch with the Cochrane Minor Hockey Association and discussed the program with them. They were very enthusiastic.”
How did the idea for the program originally come about?
“We started talking about in one day at a board meeting and it just grew from there,” Grattidge said. “I know a few hockey parents who had their kid’s first goal puck framed on the wall, so that was where it came from. It’s something near and dear to a child’s heart. Also, our pucks are personalized with the kid’s name on them.
“Part of our mandate at Credit Union is to know our customers better than our competitors, that means being more personable and in touch with the community. With this program, we’re letting kids tell their stories.”
What’s next for the program?
“We haven’t rolled it out yet, but our plan is that all of the write-ups that we receive from kids on our website up to January will go into a raffle,” Grattidge said. “Then, a winner will be drawn and given tickets to a Calgary Flames game.”
