Cochrane Lanes recently partnered with Cochrane Virtual Sports to open the town’s first Golf and Multi-Sports Simulator.
The state-of-the-art simulator offers amazing virtual golf on some of the world’s finest courses for golf fanatics who are looking to improve their technique, and enjoy their favourite sport year-round.
“We just got the machine up and running last Friday, so it’s very new,” said Lanes co-owner Sherri LaMontagne. “It’s a lot of fun, and quite a state-of-the-art piece of equipment.”
LaMontagne also believes that since the weather in Alberta can be so unpredictable, the simulator offers the perfect refuge for golfers who have their tee times rained out, but still want to play a round of nine or 18 holes.
“That’s what’s great about this,” she said. “If it’s not nice outside, you can come in and play a round.
“We have golf clubs available, but if someone wants to use their own, they are more than welcome.”
Apart from offering golf, the simluator offers 10 other games to play, such as baseball, cricket, football, hockey, rugby, soccer, and a variety of other games such as zombie dodgeball, bocce, and carnival games.
It’s the perfect outing for birthdays, other social occasions, or people looking for a new activity, as the simulator can accommodate up to six people at once.
“We’ve set it up in the back area of the bowling alley, so it has it’s own space,” LaMontagne said. “The screen takes up our entire back wall, and it’s very interactive with good quality graphics, and easy to use.”
So far, in the short time the simulator has been set up, its popularity has surprised the owners.
“We’ve just been starting to get the word out, and right now it’s been getting used two and three times a day,” LaMontagne said. “We’ve had a couple birthdays and a variety of groups.
“A lot of times when a group comes into bowl, they see this big screen in the back and want to check it out.
“It’s become quite popular through word of mouth.”
As to the sort of clientele the simulator attracts, LaMontange says it’s a wide variety, with groups of adults, young adults, and families all taking part in the fun.
“It’s got a massive appeal, because it’s got something for everyone.” she said.
