The Cochrane Piranhas Swim Club continued its stunning run of success this past weekend at the Calgary Swordfish Club meet at the University of Calgary.
The July 16 meet saw a total of 339 swimmers participate, with 36 competitors coming from Cochrane.
Ben Barclay placed second in the boys (ages nine and 10) 200m freestyle, while Kaitlyn Eiserman also came second in the girls (ages seven and eight) 50m backstroke and second in the 25m butterfly event.
Nicole Gross placed third in the girls (ages 13 and 14) 100m backstroke.
Stephanie Gross had an outstanding meet, coming away with a first place finish in the girls (ages 15 to 17) 50m backstroke, second in the 200m freestyle event, second in the 100m backstroke, and third in the 50m butterfly competition.
Max Kruger bagged a third place finish in the boys (ages 11 and 12) 100, individual medley event.
Zachary Michalski continued his successful season with the Piranhas by taking first place in the boys (ages 15 to 17) 299m freestyle event, second in the 800m freestyle, second in the 100m individual medley, and third in the 50m backstroke.
Sarah Nusl swept away with a first place finish in the girls (13 and 14-year-olds) 50m freestyle and 100m backstroke events as well as talking second in the 200m freestyle competition.
Conor Swedlo also had another strong meet, picking up a first place in the boys (ages 15 to 17) 50m backstroke, second in the 200m freestyle, and third in the 100m freestyle.
The Piranhas relay teams also came to competet, picking up some excellent results.
The girls under-12 side – consisting of Aggie Baker, Danica Marks, Ella Kruger, and Josie Powers nabbed third in the 200m medley relay.
A boys and girls mixed team in the under-eight age group made up of Rylee Bashow, Charleigh Jenson, Kade Petersen, and Eli Fitzsimmons also took a second place finish in the 100m medley relay.
Another boys and girls mixed team in the under-14 age group (Swedlo, Kruger, Natalie Barreto-Waringer, and Jake Barclay) came away with a third place finish in the 200m medley relay.
The under-17 mixed team of Nusl, Swedlo, Gross, and Michalski won second in the 200m medley event.
In the under-eight category, Bashow, Fitzsimmons, Petersen, and Charleigh Jenson came first in the 100m freestyle competition.
Another under-eight team made up of Savanna Knisley, Isaac Thibodeau, Sebastian Marks and Sage Jenson took first place in the 100m medley event and second in the 100m freestyle.
The under-10 team of Eiserman, Sydney Carnegie, Quinn Fitzsimmons, and Keegan Lewko picked up third in the 100m freestyle event.
In the under-12 200m medley relay, the team of Bryson Hamer, Bria Michalski, Darcy Petersen and Levi Lewko nabbed second place and came third in the 200m freestyle relay.
The under-17 team of Gross, Nusl, Swedlo, and Zachary Michalski walked away from the meet with second place in the 200m freestyle event.
A mixed open side made up of competitors ages 18 and up saw Piranhas coach Duncan Swedlo team up with his younger brother Aaron, Mackenzie Banfield and Carnegie in the 200m medley relay where they won second place.
The Piranhas now have a couple of days to practise and rest before heading to the Canmore Invitational Meet, which runs July 22 and 23.
