Time of hope ready for flight

Bow Valley High School will be hosting its annual Time for Hope charity gala event, May 6.

Bow Valley High School will be hosting its annual Time for Hope charity gala event, May 6. This year, Time for Hope will be “taking flight” and inviting guests to join them on a journey through the various causes of the Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation. The final destination for the evening will be Tanzania, as the funds raised from the event will be donated to help expand the Lindsay Kimmett Kindergarten there.

Since Lindsay Kimmett’s untimely passing in 2008, the Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation has carried on her spirit of giving, making significant contributions toward many local and global initiatives. BVHS student organizers are excited to be partnered with such an influential foundation, and are honoured to help contribute towards Lindsay Kimmett’s legacy. Specifically, the leadership students at Bow Valley have developed a strong passion for and connection with the school in Tanzania; they believe that being able to contribute to another’s education is both humbling and empowering.

“Knowing that I belong to a school community that cares so much about providing an education for all students, even those halfway around the world, makes me incredibly proud to attend BVHS,” said Maddie Kaczur, student organizer.

The original Lindsay Kimmett Kindergarten class has moved up to Grade 1 and the dream is to one day have the school become a fully equipped K-12. The goal of the fundraiser this year is to raise enough funds to provide desks and chairs for the expansion, as well as purchase a school bus to allow students who are farther away to attend.

This year’s event is appropriately being called Time for Hope … Takes Flight, building on Lindsay’s love of travel and the foundation’s “help where help is needed” mindset.

Bow Valley will be flying guests through an evening of live entertainment, raffle prizes, live and silent auctions, as well as interactive activities before arriving at the evening’s final destination with a keynote speaker representing the Lindsay Kimmett Kindergarten in Tanzania.

Organizers are grateful to all business and community members who are supporting this event in any way, in the form of raffle items, auction items, or time; an event of this magnitude would not be possible without the generosity of our community sponsors. Others interested in sponsorship or donating to this event can contact leadership advisor Lauren Curry at 403-932-9005.

Economy tickets are available for $25 and First Class tickets are available for $35; tickets can be purchased at the Bow Valley High School front office. Economy class tickets can also be purchased at Grand Avenue Pharmacy 105 100 Grand Blvd or at Tea and Other Things 110 2 Ave W.
