She may be the only girl on her baseball team, but 10-year-old Maeve Maguire had no fear of stepping up to home plate with her game face on.

She was all about crushing the scoreboard during the Minor Crush's game against Foothills during a tournament at Matt Krol Memorial Park on July 29.

“She's used to it … she has two brothers - she's a tough cookie, ” Wendy Maguire said about her daughter being the only girl on the team.

This is Maeve's first year of baseball - initially playing the regular season and now playing in Minor Crush's first summer season.

“She's really good … the kids love her, ” said Michelle O'How, Maguire's mentor and coach Corey O'How's wife. “They don't treat her any differently. ”

“I know what it's like … I was usually the only girl on my softball teams growing up. ”

“She's really good - she's helped with my batting, ” Maeve said about her mentor.

Wendy said her daughter's biggest inspiration to play baseball was her older 12-year-old brother, Brendan, who is currently playing on the Crush Major AA team.

“It's fun because I get to learn new skills, ” Maeve said grinning of how excited she is to be playing baseball.

This the first year Cory has coached the Minor Crush team - the main reason being his nine-year-old son Landon is on the team.

“She's doing great - she's a leader to the other kids on the team, ” Corey proudly said of how easy it is to coach players like Maguine who always work hard.

Wendy is appreciative of all the support her daughter receives from the other parents who consistently encourage Maeve to “knock it out of the park! ”

The Crush won the game with the final score of 11-8.

The team also went on to win its afternoon game against Sunridge and then again Sunday against Lethbridge. It tied Rocky Mountain Little League (Calgary).

The division championships are this coming weekend in Calgary.
