Track awards make school history

The St. Timothy High School Thunder roared to their best medal haul at the Calgary Catholic Junior High School City Track and Field Championships June 1.

The team took home a record 21 honours and recorded their first medals in the 4x100m relay categories at Glenmore Athletic Park.

Tyrel Bauer (Grade 8 boys shot put), Mikenna Spademan (Grade 9 girls 800m), Darcie Petersen (Grade 7 girls 800m), and Damen Agyeman (Grade 8 boys 200m) all walked away with gold medals.

Scott Delsing (Grade 9 boys 800m and javelin), Liam McCollough (Grade 7 boys 800m), Maggie Brolsma (Grade 9 girls 800m), Grace Boston (Grade 7 girls 800m), Jacob Mate (Grade 7 boys shot put), and Liam Hogg (Grade 8 boys 200m) collected silver medals.

The Thunder’s intermediate co-ed 4x100m relay team – consisting of Hogg, Parker Jorginson, Natasha Le, and Riley Wasylyniuk picked up a silver in their respective event, as did the Grade 7 girls 4x100 team (Melissa Yeung, Emily Carvalho, Miranda Hobbs, and Carling Bremner).

Bronze medallists included Eric Swedlo (Grade 9 boys 800m), Elspeth Cooper (Grade 8 girls 800m), Julianna Mackenzie (Grade 8 girls javelin and shot put), Veronika Vrablik (Grade 9 girls discus), and Carter Verheul (Grade 7 boys 200m).

The Grade 8 boys 4x100m (Agyeman, Bauer, Brenek Spademan, and Keegan Turuk), Grade 9 girls 4x100m (Vrablik, Michelle Conway, Mikenna Spademan, and Kennedy Michalski) also walked away with bronze medals.
