Bow Valley Bobcats coach Cam Cote has a problem most football fans would agree is a pretty nice problem to have.
For the first time in 14 years, the high school team he coaches is headed to the ASAA provincial finals on Saturday. On Sunday, his son Rob – a veteran fullback with the CFL’s Calgary Stampeders – will go to war with the Ottawa Redbacks at the 104th Grey Cup in Toronto.
“Everybody admits it’s a great problem – it’s a fantastic problem,” said Cote this week with a laugh.
Cote and his wife Kristy wouldn’t miss the Bobcats’ historic run for the Alberta Bowl for anything in the world. They also want to make sure they’re at their son’s game – so they will take in the Bobcats game in Calgary at 11 a.m. As soon as it’s done, they’ll head to the airport and catch a flight to Toronto – where about 10 of Rob’s family and friends will be in the stands on Sunday to cheer him on.
“I didn’t want to abandon anybody. You create quite a bond – we put a lot of hours in,” said Cote. “(We’re) going to go out Saturday after our game and catch up with everybody in Toronto and come home with the team.”
Cochranites can catch Cote in action in the Grey Cup at a number of venues in town, including Townhall, the Royal Canadian Legion, Ducks on the Roof and more.
