On May 28, 2020, council voted in favour of giving 1.5 million dollars to Spray Lake rec center for the hopes of an early opening but without normal accountability. In the end, it was Mayor Genung who broke a tie vote stating that he felt it was an issue of “trust” for the SLSFSCF. Since when did the need to follow through with your fiduciary responsibilities as a council member becomes a ‘trust issue’?! Why did this debate occur ‘in-camera’ with no record taken for over 30 minutes? Why was this ‘debate’ started with Mr. Genung immediately calling for a motion to go ‘in camera’?
I want to thank councillors Tara McFadden, Marni Fedeyko and Patrick Wilson for voting against this decision.
This council has made some great leadership decisions in the past but with this decision, I feel council has taken a step in the wrong direction!
As always, I would have the same opinion for any level of government that made these types of decisions.
