Cochrane Light Up embodies community spirit

As now a former organizer, I can’t express how being part of this incredible event has given me great appreciation for our business community and community at large. Cochrane is known for its community spirit and seeing thousands of people come together is what keeps the heart in our community no matter how big we grow.

We all hear the message to shop local and this year I hope you do some, if not all, in our community. I understand that it is not always easy but please keep in mind that not only do you support a local business owner but most likely a Cochrane family.

In a tough economy, I have seen something in our business community that I don’t think existed before. Businesses working together, even in competition, of each other; to support, collaborate, and park their competitiveness to help another succeed. We have seen co-working community groups, and businesses sharing space to ensure success for all. This is what makes the Cochrane community an amazing place to live, work, and play.

I challenge community members to do the same – be kind, giving, and help your neighbours. After listening to the community on the campaign trail, I realize how important community spirit is to almost every resident, people come here for our beauty and stay here for our spirit.

While we get closer and closer to the holidays remember to support each other, businesses, and even your local council. The spirit of the season is contagious and I hope you will help spread it.

On a last note, I would like to thank the businesses in our downtown core that have collaborated and come together to support Cochrane Light Up.

Light Up in my eyes is one of our most precious celebrations; it brings people together, supports our business community and keeps the heart here.

While this was my last year organizing, I can’t wait to Light Up Historic Downtown in 2018 representing Cochrane Council.
